 A Great Superbowl

At my place of business people can't stop talking about what a great Superbowl it was. The ratings were high and both teams played extremely well. It reminded me that despite all of the problems we see in sports, there is still a lot to like about them as well. Great job!

 Winter Time

I love the winter months. There is still something special about seeing snow fall and sitting in front of a warm fire. I have grown to enjoy reading a compelling book more than watching television. While some prefer summer or fall, I love winter the most of all.

 Thank Goodness For Football

Through the years, my interest for whatever reason has declined for most sports. I suppose when you get older, you have less time to devote to following sports. I rarely watch baseball or basketball these days except during tournaments and/or playoffs. The one sport I still have a passion for is football. Maybe it is because my favorite teams only play once a week but I still love it. My true passion is the NFL. I like college football a little bit, but despite the salaries and the way some players act, I still prefer the professional game to the college game. I love high school football as well. Here's to another great season of football.

Learning To Be Nice To People

The other day I was in a store and made the mistake of saying hello to someone. The person basically ignored what I said other than learning around to see who was speaking to them. Nothing makes me madder than someone so caught up in themselves that they can't say a simple hello back. If I ever not said hello to someone, I can't remember it. I really believe society has lost its way. We are afraid to be nice to people.

 My Grade on Sports

I grew up a fan of sports. In recent years I have found my interest declining. Maybe it is because I have gotten older but my suspicion is the sport itself has almost ran me off.

NFL-This is the one sport I still have somewhat of a passion for. There is competitive balance in the league and I think pro football still has compelling games each week. That being said there are too many boring offenses in the league, an increase of thugs, and the league has gotten ridiculous protecting the quarterbacks and not allowing players and fans to have fun. Grade:B

NCAA Football-I still like the band at college games but the BCS makes the sense have no legitimacy. A computer or polls should not determine who plays for a championship. Grade: D

NBA-The only time the NBA is fun anymore is the playoffs and even that is not the same. The league is basically filled with thugs while the games are boring and seldom competitive. NBA crowds are as boring as it gets. Grade:F

NCAA Basketball- I prefer pro football to college, but college basketball is clearly better than the NBA. There is the right number of games and March Madness is the best event in sports. My only problem is with non conference schedules. There are too many cupcakes. Grade:B

Major League Baseball-Baseball has been surpassed by football in this country. MLB has to get smart with revenue sharing. When the Yankees have one player make a higher salary than the entire Florida Marlins team that says it all. The season is too long. Grade:C-

NHL-I have sort of gotten into hockey. Hockey is under the radar in this country but these guys play hard. The problem with hockey is it is a terrible sport to watch on television. It is much more fun at the arena. Grade:C plus

PGA Golf-I am a big fan of professional golf. Tiger Woods has transcended the sport like Michael Jordan did the NBA when it was fun to watch. The downside is the money is getting outrageous and the players seem to lay down when Woods is making a run. Grade:B

PGA Champions Tour Golf-I like the Champions Tour because it is fun seeing the guys I watched as a kid still playing in their senior years. However, for many people it is geezer golf. Grade:C

Tennis-Next

WWE Wrestling-this is a sports blog so NEXT!

Women's College Basketball-I actually like women's basketball. They play with true passion unlike the men and play a team game like it was intended. The game has become much more athletic in recent years. Grade:B-

WNBA-There is more teamwork than the men's game and the ladies seem grateful to have a pro league in the United States. However, the level of play isn't much better than the college game. Grade:D
